Founded in 1922 during the Japanese colonial period. In 1946, it merged with the Second Girls' High School, reopened at the present site, and was named "Provincial Taichung Second Middle School." The school briefly served only male students. Co-education resumed in 1982, along with the establishment of a Music Experimental Class. It was nationalized in 2000, and gifted classes (Math/Science and Language) were founded in 2003. In 2017, it was transferred to the Taichung City Government and is now known as "Taichung Municipal Taichung Second Senior High School."

Taichung Second Senior High School (TCSSH) is a leading institution in Taiwan dedicated to cultivating globally minded students through rigorous academics and international engagement. For nearly two decades, TCSSH has actively promoted international educational exchange, forging strong partnerships with schools and students from the United States, Japan, France, Singapore, and beyond. One of our flagship initiatives is the Joint Program with Fairmont International School, which allows students to earn dual diplomas from both TCSSH and Fairmont, significantly enhancing their competitiveness in global university admissions. In addition, TCSSH is the only school in Central Taiwan officially certified by the College Board to offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses, ensuring our students are well-prepared for international academic standards.
Our curriculum emphasizes bilingual proficiency and global competence. The Mathematics and Science International Bilingual Program offers a dual-diploma pathway, integrating STEAM education, Academic English, and AP courses. This program equips students with both scientific knowledge and advanced English skills, preparing them for higher education and international careers. Beyond academics, TCSSH fosters global awareness through innovative extracurricular programs. Our English Travel Agency project blends language learning with cultural exploration, while the Model United Nations (MUN) club provides a dynamic platform for students to engage in global discourse, enhancing their research, public speaking, and intercultural communication skills. Through these comprehensive programs, TCSSH empowers students to become confident, capable global citizens ready to thrive in an interconnected world.
