Brief School History of Dongshan Elementary School
1. Foundation and Early Years (1918–1945)
Founded in March 1918, Dongshan Elementary School began as the "Dongshan Branch Classroom." Due to the passion of local leaders, classes initially commenced on April 1st in a private residence. Through the generous fundraising efforts of local gentry—including Cao Qing-quan and Jiang Qiu-yang—and the significant land donation from the Jiang family’s "Zhong-de Hall," the school infrastructure was built. In 1919, it gained independence as Dongshan Public School under its first principal, Shichinosuke Sakan.
2. Post-War Development and Renaming (1945–Present)
Following the post-war recovery, Mr. Jiang Wen-zhou was appointed as the first principal of the new era, and the school was officially renamed Changhua County Yuanlin Dongshan Elementary School. From its humble beginnings with just one class of 43 students, the school has grown alongside the local community, nurturing countless alumni who have become outstanding contributors to society across various fields.
3. Geographical Context and Community Spirit
Located at the eastern foot of the Bagua Mountain Range, near the famous Baiguo Mountain Scenic Area, our school was once surrounded by lush orchards and green fields. While modern development has gradually transformed the landscape into a residential area, the core spirit of our community—honesty, diligence, and simplicity—remains unchanged.
4. A New Era of Excellence (Present)
Today, with a history spanning over a century, Dongshan Elementary School has evolved into a modern educational hub with 12 classes and approximately 200 students. We blend our deep historical roots with 21st-century innovation, specializing in baseball excellence, Beiguan cultural heritage, and bilingual digital learning.
