The first college "College of Paradise" was created in 1604 (Henry IV was then King of France). It is located on the site of the current Saint Brieuc museum.
In 1792, during the Revolution, the college, which was to expand, moved to Les Cordeliers, the very location of the current college, where there was the space necessary for construction.
It is successively called municipal college (1799), communal college (1803 – Napoleon Bonaparte is then 1st Consul), secondary school (1811 – Napoleon 1st is Emperor), then royal college in 1847.
After the Revolution of 1848, the Second Republic decided to transform it into a high school: the first stone was laid in 1849, the first school year took place in 1852.
Under the Second Empire, the school was called imperial school.
During the “Great War” in 1914 -1918, the buildings housed a hospital.
It was in 1929 that the school took the name of the writer Anatole Le Braz, who was a student there from 1871 to 1878.
During the Second World War, the German army moved into the buildings. Teachers and high school students resist the occupier and the liberation, part of the premises is burned and gutted by the explosion of ammunition stored by the Germans in 1944.
In 1967, the high school was transformed into a college.
A museum was created in 1983: where there are many testimonies of the long history of the college.
