Founded on April 1, 1938, the school was first named Tainan State Chiayi Commercial School. In 1945 the Republic of China's government took control of the school and changed its name to Taiwan Provincial Chiayi Commercial Vocational School. In 1968, the school went through big changes, ending the junior high division and starting a specialized commercial high school program. It included Comprehensive Business, Accounting Statistics, Clerical Affairs, and Advertising Design. The school continued to grow, and in 1987 and 1988, it created the Department of Continuing Education and the Department of International Trade. In 1999, another change happened when the school introduced the Department of Data Processing, replacing the Clerical Affairs Department. The year 2000 brought another name change; the school became known as National Chiayi Senior Commercial Vocational School (CYVS), operating under the Ministry of Education. In 2006, the Department of Comprehensive High School (CHS) was created, replacing the Accounting and Statistics Department. The Department of Applied English was set up in 2013. Finally, in 2019, the CHS was supplanted by a new General Department.

Our school's vision is firmly rooted in "Professionalism, Sociability, and Comprehensiveness," aiming to cultivate modern youth to embody professionalism, innovation, communication, collaboration skills, and hold a diverse, broad perspective. performance, our school proudly boasts an overall college acceptance rate that exceeds 95%, with the majority of our graduates gaining entry into prestigious universities across Taiwan and earning, on average, three Technician Certificates from the Ministry of Labor. Our students’ excellence is further showcased through their achievements in The National Skill Competition and Thematic Competition, garnering appreciation from parents and the community. Highlighting our school's unique features, the publication club has won "Gold Award" and "Editing Award" in national competitions, and our cheerleading team consistently ranks in the top three at the National Secondary School Cheerleading Championship. Additionally, the school's symphonic band, Chinese orchestra, art, and volleyball teams regularly secure outstanding results in national competitions, representing Chiayi City and maintaining a leading position among local schools.
