Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar was established in 1996 as a project school in collaboration with Punjab Police and managed by DAVCMC, with a vision to provide quality education to the wards of Police Personnel for whom quality education was largely a distant dream, as most of them came from illiterate and semiliterate families. Punjab at that time was recovering from terrorism. And the question of future of the wards of terrorist affected police personnel was one of the major concerns for Punjab Police. The Founder Chairman Sh. M.S.Bhullar, the then ADGP,PAP perceived the need of a good school in PAP campus. A man who was known as a visionary leader laid the foundation of the school,along with the support of the other officers. The school was started in the old barracks of Punjab Police with only 247 students on rolland 9 teachers,while the school now boasts of 5579 students on rolls and 243 teachers.The school flourished under the efficient and exemplary leadership of the Principal Dr. Rashmi Vijwho holds a Ph.D degree in the subject of Psychology. She is the recipient of National Teacher Award 2007 by Hon’ble President Smt. Pratibha Singh Patil and the Best Principal Award by DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi.Under her patronage , the school flourished by leaps and bounds.A tailor made curriculum and padagogy was framed for the students that laid a potent foundation of the school guaranteeing its sustainability and adaptability as per the changing time The student population comprises of wards of Police personnel in majority. Subsidized education is provided to the wards of Police Personnel and wards of those who die in harnessandallClass-IVemployeesoftheschoolarechargedanominalfee.
The school is merely twenty five years young, yet it has snow-balled into a premier institution having state of the art infrastructure with 150 class rooms, most of them equipped with Smart Boards. , variety of well furnished labs , beautifully decked up library , housing a wide range of books, to name just a few of the vast range of facilities that the school offers.. The school boasts of being one of the few schools having an Atal Tinkering Lab and 3D science labs. The school is considered a champion in the field of sports and provides coaching facility for 24 games. The school endeavours to reach excellence at all levels and is quoted as a reference point in many genres across India. The school participated in Indo Swedish Academic and Cultural Exchange Programme.It was also selected by the British Council to be part of UKEIRI.The school NASA team also won accolades in 2008 and was given coverage in SPAN, the renowned American magazine. It also provides a suitable environment to motivate the students to take up a career in armed forces. The school is the first CBSE school in the region to successfully organize an NSS camp. It aims to foster aspirit of social service and to encourage team workand leadership skill.
