Chien-Tai site is located in Miaoli city, the central part of Taiwan. It takes about one hour from here to Taipei by train. Mild weather and tranquil atmosphere provide a fantastic environment for studying.

Chien-Tai was founded by a Japanese Buddhism association and local enthusiasts for education in 1922. This was the time when Taiwan was ruled by Japan. Our initial school name was “Miaoli High School.” In 1949, our school was renamed “Chien Tai Senior High School.” So, Chien Tai is a school with very rich history. With the development of all these years, there are about 3500 students and 181 faculties now.
The spirit of Chien-Tai is to endure hardship and work hard. The Chinese pronunciation of this motto is “刻苦耐勞.” as you can see from the picture where the calligraphy is written by our founder. Mr. Huang used it to encourage our students to be a grown-up with the abilities of enduring any hardship in life and working hard without any complaint. He left the motto to us so as to remind students to take all challenges in life.

Bearing this motto in mind, we set up several teaching objectives so that we can foster competent students. In short term, we plan to utilize the campus website to build up a better learning context and environment and promote all kinds of activities on campus.
The mid-term goal is to encourage students to stay in Miaoli for further education by serving as the direct entry to senior high school in Chein-Tai.

And we hope eventually we can build Chien-Tai a top school in Taiwan. We help students set up their goals for their future and develop their abilities to carry out their dreams.

The school is composed of three categories—affiliated junior high school, senior high school and comprehensive high school. With our purpose-built facilities and dedicated teaching staff, we provide an extensive subject offer and have five vocational programs for students to choose from, including Electronics Technology, Computer Science Technology, Information Applications, and Business Service.

Our students in junior high come from different elementary schools with good talents. They are challenged to work hard in order to establish a solid basis for their senior high schoolwork. At the same time, teachers still dedicated to teaching students how to behave with honor and responsibility.

The educational program of our senior high presents a challenging preparatory curriculum, which is designed to prepare students for success at their best fit college or university. We, teachers and staffs, accept our responsibility to set up a good mutual communication with our students and their parents, and try hard to guide our students to attend prestigious institutes.

Still, facilities are important for a student-centered learning environment. Our school is equipped with 7 computer classrooms, 5 science laboratories, 2 art classrooms, a library, etc. We pride ourselves on the care and continuing support which we give to all of our students. This, together with our excellent reputation for preparing students for entrance examinations and university, has meant that we have always attracted a large number of new entrants from other schools wishing to join our own students.

Our examination results are outstanding with 87% of students getting college admission in 2020. Among them, 71 students were admitted to prestigious universities.

We believe the reason why our matriculation record is bright is because the school emphasizes the importance of multi-learning activities. We offer diverse activities for assisting our students to present their talents and gain more knowledge, such as building up their academic achievements, giving assistance on certificates obtaining, providing self-study counseling, promoting multiform contests, and holding related lecture courses.

The school teaching programs focus on English learning and teaching. With foreign teachers’ participation and our experienced teachers’ instructions, we organized various language teaching and learning patterns, such as English corner, English speech camp, and English academic or artistic contests, including English plays, English singing contests, and spelling bee competitions.

To retain our root as Chinese, we also hold Chinese language contests every semester. Some of the subcategories are calligraphy writing competitions and composition contests.

For off-campus activities, teachers spend extra hours after school leading students to participate in skill competitions, young diplomats, golden brain quiz contests, scientific exhibition, international mathematical olympiad and so forth. Every semester, our school offers a variety of field-trip programs. In order to cultivate sensible and intellectual students, students have opportunities to visit Buddhist temples, and through religious study trip, they’ve learned sophisticated architecture styles in old times, the spirit of religious belief, and cultural history. Both teachers and students are exposed to a cozy atmosphere of old times. Furthermore, Miaoli County is known for its tea, especially a tea called Oriental Beauty. I suggest you set apart your time to sip the tea during your stay. We arrange our students to experience tea picking and tea making in the plantations. Through this activity, not only can students undergo the experience of tea picking, but they also acquire interface knowledge of local agricultural development and culture.

With more than 20 student organizations, life at Chien-Tai is active and lively. Our students clubs are student-based school organizations, consisting of administration-approved organizations functioning with myriads of tasks, varying on the specific purpose of each respective club. Our students join clubs for various reasons. Most active club members generally consist of freshmen and sophomores, looking to find their respective niche in school dynamics.

Chien-Tai also focuses on international education exchange programs, so our students have the opportunity to be considered to study away from Miaoli at high schools in Japan. We’ve arranged students to visit two high schools in Japan from 2012 to 2018, and so far, we’ve signed an academic exchange and cooperation plan with Kansai Chuo High School in Nara, Japan.

Chien-Tai is a high school with a long history, community recognition, and parent support services. Following the main theme of continuance of tradition and innovation, the mission of Chien-Tai Senior High School is to offer nationally competitive and internationally recognized opportunities for learning, discovery and engagement to a diverse population of students in a real-world setting. We offer a full range of certificate programs at affiliated junior high schiool, senior high school, and comprehensive high school and pursue a broad agenda of research and creative activities. As a knowledge resource to the public, Chien-Tai builds partnerships with other educational institutions, community organizations, government agencies, and some private sectors to serve the community.
