【News】Nantou students win big a global wind energy contest

(FORMOSA NEWS) Taiwanese students shone bright at a global wind energy competition in the US. A total of 125 teams competed in the 2026 World KidWind Challenge in the US State of Wisconsin. Among them, were five teams from Taiwan, who picked up four championship titles. One of the teams from Nantou stood out head and shoulders above the rest, claiming two world championship titles and a Blade Engineer Award. Let’s hear from the young engineers.

We worked on the project for 10 months, from last August to May. It was exhausting. But it was also incredibly rewarding to win.

I’m the tallest and biggest guy in the team, so I had to carry the wind turbine from one place to the other for tests. I must have gained muscle.

We formed a team with competitors from Tainan and combined expertise from different fields. Everyone worked together really well. The hardest part was making sure there wasn’t conflict within the team. Everyone stayed united and worked toward the same goal.
The team SL Angel Wings won the title of Wind Champions in the Middle School Division. They were coached by STAR English teacher Chi Shang-fu and Sheliao Junior High School teacher Chang Yu-hao. The students was mainly made up of students from junior high schools in Nantou, including Sheliao Junior High and Yingbei Junior High. The young bright minds were given a grand welcome back in Taiwan, with locals gathering to celebrate their win on the international stage.
